According to Arnoud Raskin we need ‘Happy Streetwise people’. He connects his 15 year experience with homeless children and living on the street with social-economic trends. Todays crisis does not make things easier. Still there is room for paradigm shifts and a focus on new opportunities.

ABOUT Tedx

TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, ‘ideas worth spreading’. The programme is designed to give communities, organisations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level

ABOUT Arnoud Raskin

“Arnoud Raskin is founder of Streetwize and the Mobile School. In 1997 he graduated as Industrial Designer in Belgium with the Mobile School project. A project that eventually led to a global organisation helping ten thousands of children on the streets in their personal development.

Building on an academic background in industrial design and cultural studies, Arnoud Raskin took his inspiration from the time he was a social worker in Columbia to think about an educational project that could help homeless children.

Because the classical learning methods were obviously not working for socially challenged groups of people, particularly youngsters, Arnoud Raskin thought about a school that is tailored to meet their needs. So he invented a telescopic blackboard, over 250 educational games and a mobile means of transporting all these. Then he reinvented a teacher who is able to use them properly.

Now, the mobile school is present in over 30 places all over Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe. With his next project a school for managers learning from the culture of living on the streets. The revenues of this project aimed at companies are used to make the Mobile School Project sustainable.”
