Code Breaker

I like the enigma that is life, well, sometimes. I like the fact there are parts of it that require deciphering. I fancy myself as a code-breaker. I like that while some days may be filled with many small codes that are easily cracked, there are others that require painstaking scrutiny as to how they might be opened.

I’ve battled for days with this puzzle of how to unlock courage. With every turn of the dial now I’ve become half-hearted in my attempts. Back 2, forward 6, pause, 1 to the right 3 to the left. Or was that Back 6, forward 2, pause … you get my drift.

It really has become frustrating. Blackey tells me I’m trying too hard. Relax, just go with the flow this, from Stepera Graculina. I wonder just when a pied currawong got so smart!

But I can’t relax. When the going gets tough, well, in my world, the tough get coffee and any funderstanding that was apparent in the beginning has now become a left-brained exercise to break the code whatever the cost. That bit worries me, the cost bit. Code-breakers can get so obsessive. What is that? Mastery of the task or just down right tenacity? Both I suspect.

I mean, it’s Thursday morning and I should be reading the newspapers, eating croissants, sipping freshly squeezed OJ and licking the effusive crema of that ‘sauce of dissent’ from my lips. Yes? Well, that’s how it should be in theory.

Instead, here I am tinkering with the puzzle of courage. Pacing helps. But not this morning. Pretending to ignore its stubborn hold on the clue to crack it, appeases. Like hell!

Interesting, something is just now occurring to me. The key to unlocking the enigma of courage. Could it really be that simple? Surely not! Years ago the knowing was in the touch. Today, there are different locking configurations: key lock, combo, digital or electronic.

It occurs to me, there isn’t a dial on this strong box. Is the trouble when you become obsessed with code-breaking. I must have imagined a dial. This one has the simpler key lock, nothing fancy. And the key?

Turning the key. I smile, it’s turning the full circle. The key to unlocking courage is I.NT.E.G.R.I.T.Y.
