Little Red Mon-star
What is it about a three and a half year old monster that brings out the best in us? Oh did I mention he was red? Apologies, small oversight on my part. Actually that’s human years. Three and a half, human years. In monster years that makes him … umm … much older! We’re talking about Elmo of course!
I love that he has such lovely manners and a wonderful chuckle. That chuckle just makes you want to laugh right back too. A full, right from the heart of humour, belly-chuckle that’s infectious to anyone within a heart’s beat of him.
Is laughter medicine? And more, I say! It heals without a prescription in areas that are unwell in people and where Doctors with all their expertise may be unaware that a person is feeling unwell. Laughter sneaks over all manner of walls and it goes to the source of the pain. It applies an aloe-like salve there. A balm to soothe all manner of aches and pains. There’s got to be more than medicine (as we know it) at work here.
Healing can come to us in the most innocuous way. Like through little red monsters with manners and charm. And there, for any number of brief moments, when we allow him to get under our skin. he, with his red monster magic , apparently brings to life, such roses as those whose bloom has begun to fade. What is this? An Elmo visit is our gift.
In answer to the question, that’s what ‘this’ is. A gift. He’s a friendly monster as opposed to any other kind. A modern day member if you will of the monster-magi bearing a myrrh-like substance made from laughter. It’s perfume is sweet without being sickly. Fragrant without being heady.
It’s prescribed for the sad, sick or sentimental and for everyone else in between. Don’t you just love the fairness in that? So, welcome friendly magi-monster, your gift is welcome, meet some of my friends. Some of them are in need of your kind of magic today. Thank you for coming.
