Budda Bing

What is it about some people that make you feel that although they stood in the same line as you, waited as patiently as you did, they nevertheless managed to get a particularly larger slice of the budda-bing pie?

You know what I mean don’t you? When they smile they could light up an entire street. They have a verve for life that’s infectious. My friend Liesle is like that. Full to the brim with life. She’s a documentary maker, a perfectionist as much as she herself is ‘almost perfect’.

I say ‘almost’ because we are afterall only human! I first met her when she came to my Office with a few of her team members, they were hunting for a story to tell. I’m sure that’s the intention of all doco-makers, to tell a story and tell it well.

Liesle is like being in a room with a 40 gallon drum of petrol and the light out. Then some bright spark gets it in their head to light a match and see where the light switch is. Now, some of us might think that was a dumb thing to do, but the thing about Liesle is you don’t exactly know how high octane she is until you strike a light!

And then, well! Talk about unleashing the force. She can leave you sucking on a fire hydrant just for some relief. Liesle is an AFTRS (Australian Film Television and Radio School www.aftrs.edu.au) Graduate student, she keeps good company with a luminary Alumnus.

The thing I love most about her is the way she eats up life. Sits down at its table and full on bogs in without waiting for permission to eat. Now, don’t get me wrong. She’s a total lady. But what I appreciably admire is the great gusto with which she does it.

There’s no mincing around lifes edges. There’s no finickety toying with food and moving it round the plate in pretence that she’ll eat it eventually! Nope, she’s the real deal. She rolls it around in her mouth enjoying the flavour, the gastronomic sensations that delight her tastebuds. Today I’m thinking I want to imitate her art for life. What do you think?
