Red Licorice

I hate surprises. And that I suppose tells you alot about me. Well, something and nothing. Surprises make me feel uncomfortable if I don’t react the way the surpriser expects me too! I can tell you that from experience!

A friend of mine gave me a Surprise party one year and since it was a surprise I couldn’t possibly have known that making a detour along the way was going to set a cat among the pigeons. After I didn’t show and was two hours late for own Surprise Party (the one I didn’t know about) my girlfriend called me on my mobile and asked “where the bloody hell are you?”

I was abit perplexed because I’d actually been having a marvellously languid wander through the National Art Gallery. She sounded a tetch testy when she called. It was lost on me though! I recall telling her something completely vague, like I’d be home shortly. Well, you know how it is, a little wander here and a little meander there and goodness, before you know it another two hours has frittered itself away. Banana frittered!

Eventually I did go home and discovered my guests had started without me. Fair enough. The thing about that Surprise Party was they could have saved themselves the angst of a wayward surprisee given my track record. I’m quite purposeful in my walkabout day but if I get a hankering to wander, who knows how far or how wide I’ll wander because not even I know that about myself until I actually front up on the day.

So I was in trouble, what’s new!Like I said at the start, I hate surprises except the day I discovered red licorice. I’ve been a fiend, I mean fan ever since. It’s one of the world’s best kept secrets because red licorice lovers the world over know when they’re onto a good thing and to be fair, there are some things you really ought to keep to yourself. How good it is, is one of them! Don’t tell anyone I told you!
