Real Eco Active Fishing (REAF)
Faced with declining marine stocks and rising fuel costs, REAF in conjunction with the Opotiki Community, is setting about growing more fish, closer to port and exploring the skills and ethics needed to harvest them sustainably.
Many sea beds are relatively quite barren and lack the structure that fish and other marine species need. A start has been made with enhancing such seabed just out of the little coastal township of Opotiki, New Zealand.
Building resilience into our ability to continue fishing, providing healthy seafood for our families, and growing more fish for future generations is surely a concept worth exploring. REAF offers many options for you to get involved no matter where you might live.
