Two Paddocks Blog
“We broke the bread,we drank the wine
Everybody… having a good time.”
U2, To the Ends of the Earth
Two Paddocks is a small family wine producing business that is entirely dedicated to making great wine. It’s proprietor, Sam Neill is also an itinerant actor. He has a long standing interest in wine, particularly red wine, which accounts for his rude good health.
He’s very proud of everything about Two Paddocks, and will bore you to death on the subject if you give him a chance. Don’t. Has visions of a vast Two Paddocks Empire, but is usually better the next day. Plays cricket badly, also the ukulele. Pretends to be a fly fisherman. Not related to Sam Hunt.
Sam is an active proponent of protecting and preserving New Zealand’s precious natural resources. He is a member of the Sustainability Council of New Zealand, a trustee of the National Parks and Conservation Foundation and a Patron for Waitaki First.
We started Two Paddocks in 1993 with modest ambitions and first planted five acres of Pinot Noir at our original little vineyard at Gibbston, Central Otago in the deep south of New Zealand.
At the same time, our friend Roger Donaldson planted the land next door, hence the name Two Paddocks. (Roger’s paddock proved to be a slow starter, which meant we had to go it on our own; however we kept the title. His brand, Sleeping Dogs, takes its name from the first film we made together.)
