Jelly Belly

I love a good belly-laugh, its so liberating, so decadently nourishing for the soul that I prescribe it be eaten by the bowlsful. I had a neighbour that had the most deliciously genuine belly-laugh that is totally infectious. It’s true, it’s totally catchable.

On a really good day, a really dinkum blow your socks off belly laugh emanates from somewhere deep in the soles of her feet, whizzes past GO where she collects 200 giggling wannabes, they take a left turn into Crystal Street, then out onto Brighton and along to Palace Street where they catch a train from the No. 7 platform to Andreas St where she lives. For the price of a Return ticket ($AUD 3.40) it’s just the best value!

I encourage laughter all the time, any time and I so admire the Keepers of a good belly laugh. Why? Because not everyone can be a Keeper. Infact, not everyone is capable of giving it away as freely or as openly as a real Keeper. Theirs is a no-strings attached gift, that’s the way you tell a real Keeper. My neighbour was one of them. She’s so indiscriminate.

A good belly-laugh is uncontrollably maddening. You get sore cheeks from laughing so hard and it’s one of the few times when it would be good to have some control over how silly it can make you look. Does it really matter?

It’s unstoppable when it has you in its grip and can be painful if it lasts too long but all in all it’s something you want to eat a bowlful of at least a couple of times a day. I think Nutritionists everywhere might agree with me that it’s okay to indulge in this food-fest for the soul. I’m certainly no Nutritionist but with it’s low GI rating it’s got to be good for the heart!
