Drinking the Bath Water
From time to time when my children were small I used to fill the bath tub with hot water, added strawberry flavoured jelly crystals, stirred them until they had completely dissolved and the water temp had become tepid. After that, for sheer mad delight, the only other thing you needed to add was three small children.
VPL
VPL is short for Very Penneylane. They’re my take on everyday lessons from life. Lessons learnt and others where I missed the boat completely. Life’s long or short, depending on which end of the paddle you draw. Either way, being stuck up a creek without one makes for some interesting observations.
ABOUT that lesson
My daughter Amiria aka Mede hated putting her face in water when she was young. This never bode well for swimming lessons later on when she managed to pull the swimming cap over her Swim Instructor’s eyes by simply wetting her face when he wasn’t looking.
Trust me, if children think they’re tricky. Mum’s know just about every trick in the book too! Sore ears were a parental hazard of her learning. She had near perfect ear-piercing pitch. And the boys being boys never resisted any opportunity to splash water in her face.
I don’t recall exactly the moment that Amiria discovered drinking the bath water was delicious, I simply remember her not screaming at the top of her lungs any more. And the carillon sounds of bells ringing in my ears having ceased. Sweet bliss.
Business bravery is like drinking the bath water. It’s about overcoming your fears long enough to understand that water on the face is not the same as drowning. That learning new business skills can facilitate personal growth and survival in the many business conditions you may find yourself in. Above all, and as Mede discovered, they can strawberry-flavoured taste great too!
