In this day and age, Jordan Theriot is a breath of fresh air. On January 14, 2011, Caltech hosted an exciting one-day event to honour Richard Feynman: Nobel Laureate, Caltech physics professor, iconoclast, visionary, and all-around ‘curious character’. Jordan shares her experience of the value of extraordinary teaching, extraordinary mentorship and what it can really mean to someone. PLO.com celebrates Jordan’s talk as its 100th VidStyle entry.

ABOUT TEDx

TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, ‘ideas worth spreading’. The programme is designed to give communities, organisations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.

ABOUT Jordan Theriot

Jordan Theriot is a third-year Undergraduate majoring in chemistry at Caltech. Jordan is working in the lab of Professor Robert Grubbs designing and synthesising new metathesis catalysts, which are important for the formation of new carbon-carbon bonds.

Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, she left her native New Orleans to attend the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. Since then, she has gone to some unusual measures to immerse herself in the academic world, not the least of which is attending Caltech.

Her other interests include French literature, fencing, piano, the sport of Pole Dance Fitness (under the tuition of Pro Pole Dance Champion, Estee Zakar) and making the most of her educational experience.
