5 KURIOUS KIWI QUESTIONS

Do you have interesting friends? I do. I’m a kurious kiwi, so in this LifeStyle section I ask them 5 Questions. Their responses are sometimes startling yet always thought evoking. I ask each of them a common question relating to a Cause they believe in and why it matters to them. Read on to share in their take on what they think really does matter.

2011 AFL Final, which two teams?

My father is the go to man for all things AFL related in our family so based on his predictions; Collingwood and Geelong with a Collingwood win. The “fantasy AFL Final” would actually involve a crushing Essendon win over the Magpies!

Bright Inbound Marketing (formerly Tom Tom Communications) is your latest business baby, what’s it offering to the market?

The Marketing and PR world is changing so rapidly with so many more options for communicating effectively with customers. Whether that’s traditional PR, events, webinars, social media, search engine optimisation or online lead generation programmes.

Our team have worked for clients such as Telstra, Novell, Optus, Freedom Furniture, SME’s, and even the Miss Universe pageant so we have an incredible range of experience . And we REALLY enjoy what we do and love getting great results for clients. Call us! Let’s do coffee.

Tell me about a Cause you support. Why that Cause?

I am a passionate supporter of Kidsxpress, a phenomenal programme that assists children in crisis by teaching them positive coping mechanisms for life using art, music and drama therapies. These are children who face anything from bullying, terminal illness, violence or neglect and the programme helps create strong healthy teenagers and adults, who otherwise may have face very uncertain futures.

I strongly believe that the help we can provide and lessons we teach these children, have lifelong effects, not only for these children but for their families, friends and communities.

Two pieces of advice you’d swear by as a busy working mother and business woman?

Outsource anything you can to ensure more time for your family and clients. It makes the best use of everyone’s time and skills. For me, that means using a cleaner, utilising online shopping services for everything from groceries to gifts and ensuring that the right people are doing the right jobs in our business.

Secondly, don’t be too hard on yourself. It is difficult trying to be everything to everyone so find 15 minutes a day just to do something for yourself: read a magazine, have a quiet cup of coffee, read a blog, stretch. Anything so you can gather your thoughts and get focused on your next task, be that building a tower out of Lego or preparing a client budget.

Which fav. recipe would you give away because it’s just too good to keep to yourself?

My dear friend Megan gave me this recipe for this very decadent chocolate ganache torte when we were teenagers, so I have been baking it for a LONG time. No fail, perfect cake every time and it is one of the very rare cakes that tastes better the next day!

Ingredients
200g Butter
1 tbsp Coffee
200g Dark Chocolate
2 cups Castor Sugar
1 ½ cups SR Flour
¼ cup cocoa
1 ½ cups hot water
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla

Ganache
125g Dark chocolate
125g Butter- melt together in double boiler & pour over cooked and cooled cake.

THE CAKE!

Melt butter, stir in coffee and water in a double boiler (or bowl sitting over gently simmering saucepan of water). Add chocolate and sugar and stir until smooth. Gradually beat in sifted dry ingredients. Add egg and vanilla, beat well. The mixture will be quite runny. Pour into a well greased and lined tin. Bake in slow oven at 180degrees for 1-1/2 hours. It is delicious warm from the oven and even better after being refrigerated overnight!!
