ABOUT Jay Coen Gilbert
“Jay co-founded B Lab, an organisation trying to solve social and environmental problems by relying on the power of B Corporations, businesses certified to have sustainable values.
B Corps are certified by B Lab, a non-profit organisation, the same way Transfair certifies Fair Trade coffee or USGBC certifies green buildings.
Jay, Bart Houlahan, and Andrew Kassoy (the ‘Co-Founders’) have developed, incubated and funded B Lab to date. They have a shared passion for creating a better world through business and have been friends for over 20 years. Jay said, “We want to help consumers separate good companies from good marketing.”
Through a company’s B Impact Assessment, anyone can access performance data about the social and environmental practices that stand behind their products. There are over 400 Certified B Corporations across 60 different industries. Hundred million dollar companies stand side by side with start-ups, sharing one common goal: to change the world through business.
Their vision is simple yet ambitious: to create a new sector of the economy which uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. This sector will be comprised of a new type of corporation – the B Corporation – that meets rigorous and independent standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.”
INTERNATIONAL UPDATE : B Corps are now in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Germany, India, Kenya, Mexico, Mongolia, Nicaragua, United Kingdom, South Korea and the US.
