Nate Garvis: Creating the Common Good by Habit
Nate Garvis discusses how we live and thrive by public policy outcomes, not angry political inputs, and the path is to honour our community values by designing them into our daily products and services. Common good by design not angry politics.
ABOUT TEDx
TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, ‘ideas worth spreading’. The programme is designed to give communities, organisations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.
ABOUT Nate Garvis
“For the past twenty years he’s sat at the intersection of Fortune 100 business, government, politics, civics, media, health care, public safety, academia, philanthropy and non-governmental organisations.
Nate believes it takes a lot of institutional energy to build healthy, vibrant and prosperous communities and he has spent his years weaving these players together with that goal in mind.
Civic Design is a practice that focuses on the common good outcomes of communities by drawing upon all of the institutional tools in communities, beyond the traditional sole focus on government alone.
Regulating communities into better health and prosperity, writ large, is more than passing laws and warring over angry left vs. right politics. Civic Designers believe that we simply cannot afford that type of narrow thinking anymore, and that is more than a mere financial commentary. They believe we simply cannot afford to be that uncreative in these historically dynamic times.”
