ABOUT Tedx

TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, ‘ideas worth spreading’. The programme is designed to give communities, organisations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.

ABOUT Guy Kawasaki

“Guy was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1954. His family lived in a tough part of Honolulu called Kalihi Valley. They weren’t rich, but he never felt poor-because his mother and father made many sacrifices for his sister and him.

Guy cites his AP English teacher Harold Keables as a major influence, who taught him that “the key to writing is editing.” He graduated with B.A. in psychology from Stanford University in 1976. After attending Stanford, he went to law school at UC Davis, where he lasted one week before realising that he disliked law school.

In 1977, he enrolled in the UCLA Anderson School of Management, from where he received his MBA. His first job was at a jewellery company, Nova Stylings; in regards to this, Guy said “the jewellery business is a very, very tough business, tougher than the computer business. I learned a very valuable lesson: how to sell.

In 1983, he got a job at Apple through his Stanford roommate, Mike Boich. Guy was the chief evangelist for four years, until he ‘started listening to’ [his] own hype, and wanted to start a software company and really make big bucks.”
