ABOUT TED
TED is a small Non Profit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment and Design.
ABOUT Amy Purdy
“After bacterial meningitis took her legs, Amy Purdy struggled with depression, and only beat it when she learned to accept her new reality, but not any limitations.
After being unable to find prosthetics that would allow her to snowboard, she built her own. Today, she is a world champion female adaptive snowboarder.
Amy has “acquired a new nickname after all the children in the neighborhood call her robot. She actually takes it as a compliment, robots over the years seem to be universally cool. After a brush with death she lost body parts including her legs, spleen and kidneys and almost lost my life.
After a long battle she gained body parts including super high-tech prosthetic legs and a new kidney with ultra filtration power from her father. She also gained a new breath of life, more gratitude and passion then ever.
She’s inspired daily by life. In 2005, she co-founded Adaptive Action Sports, a non-profit dedicated to introducing people with physical challenges to action sports.”
