Cath Dwyer: Community and Media Collaboration for Digital Storytelling
First there were the broadcasters, then there was peer-to-peer media sharing. ABC Open sits where the two converge: a conduit for the flow of stories and ideas between the ‘active audience’ and the National Broadcaster. After one year, and thousands of contributions from regional Australia, Cath Dwyer has presented the case for community participation in mainstream media.
ABOUT Tedx
TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, ‘ideas worth spreading’. The programme is designed to give communities, organisations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.
ABOUT Cath Dwyer
“Cath Dwyer is Co-Project Director of ABC Open. Formerly a Radio Producer and Audio Feature Kaker, Cath developed an interest in non-linear multiplatform storytelling while working at Triplej FM in the 1990s, where she produced radio stories and features, and created online content in the early days of the station’s website.
Since then she’s lectured at University of Technology, Sydney. In 2009, she returned to the ABC to head up the ambitious project ABC Open, which brings digital skills to regional communities and distributes their stories through the ABC.”
