Automation redefined blue collar employment and reshaped a global economy. Now, technology is replacing higher skilled jobs by augmenting human brainpower the way steam engines augmented human labour. Andrew McAfee braces us for a fundamental transformation in the future of work.

ABOUT TEDx

TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, ‘ideas worth spreading’. The programme is designed to give communities, organisations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.

ABOUT Andrew McAfee

“Andrew McAfee studies the ways that information technology (IT) affects businesses and business as a whole. His research investigates how IT changes the way companies perform, organise themselves, and compete. At a higher level, his work also investigates how computerisation affects competition, society, the economy, and the workforce.

He co-authored the ebook ‘Race Against the Machine: How the Digital Revolution is Accelerating Innovation, Driving Productivity, and Irreversibly Transforming Employment and the Economy’ with Erik Brynjolfsson. The book brings together a range of data, examples, and research to show that the average US worker is being left behind by advances in technology.

He coined the phrase ‘Enterprise 2.0’ in a Spring 2006 Sloan Management Review article to describe the use of Web 2.0 tools and approaches by businesses. He blogs about Enterprise 2.0 and about his other research. Andrew’s blog is widely read, and according to Technorati has become one of the most popular in the world.”
