Richard Reynolds: With Flowers instead of Guns We Fight
When Richard Reynolds planted a flower on an unused small plot in the middle of night for the first time in his life, he never expected to be on the forefront of the ‘Guerilla Gardening’ Movement. He had never thought of fighting against the forces that didn’t care about public spaces or cast a nonchalant look at abandoned corners of ever-sprawling cities. Nor had he dreamed of being at the vanguard of a global movement.
ABOUT TEDx
TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, ‘ideas worth spreading’. The programme is designed to give communities, organisations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.
ABOUT Richard Reynolds
“There are people standing up against things that make our life dry and dull with small but steady endeavour, concerned experts who find the architecture with no consideration of nature and reckless urban planning sick and tired, and the green troops who wish to lead simple and harmonious life. Richard Reynolds is the seed of consolation and hope for these people.
He never dreamed of being at the vanguard of a global movement. But soon he stood at the centre of a ‘silent revolution’, as guerrillas [how they spell it] around the world raided his blog to share their story of flower-planting. His blog became the base camp for active guerrilla gardeners at home and abroad.
Guerrilla gardeners exchange their own combat know-hows including how to make seed bombs to enable green transformation of an abandoned space and how to pull off their secret guerrilla operations quickly.”
