It was an ambivalent day, the day of my great grandmother Moewaka Jane Rapana’s unveiling, ambivalent how? Well, neither the day nor the weather could agree who was going to have first say about how events would pan out and eventually we left them to argue between themselves like siblings in a childhood dust up.

It’s Father’s Day. This time last year I was chatting to my Dad by phone because he lived in Waipukurau in Central Hawkes Bay on New Zealand’s North Island and I lived in Sydney, Australia.

Tilly and her all-girl choir (as I call them) were up at the crack of dawn this morning, twittering to their heart’s content and blissfully unaware that the more languid human bi-ped (now unwillingly alerted to their presence) was about to throw the book at them! Noisy neighbours!
