Katie Piper is a courageous young woman, rebuilding her life after surviving a brutal attack in 2008, when sulphuric acid was thrown in her face. She spent seven weeks in the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, before beginning a two year stint where she wore a special plastic pressure mask for 23 hours of every day.

In January 2007, a routine shoulder x-ray incidentally disclosed a shadow in the lung, that turned out to be metastasized kidney cancer (stage IV, grade 4 renal cell carcinoma).
